Scaling and root planing involve removing calcium deposits (plaque, tartar, calculus, stone) from around the tooth, both above and below the gum line. One unit of scaling or root planing consists of 15 minutes of treatment.
Your dental office can submit an estimate electronically through their software to confirm how many units are eligible.
Information regarding your scaling units can also be found in your explanation of benefits or in your benefit booklet.
