During your appointment, you and your counsellor will work together to determine the best approach for you. This could include cognitive-behavioural therapy, mindfulness exercises, and many other approaches that will be tailored for your situation. You and your counsellor will determine the next steps at the end of your appointment.

It’s important to set up your computer in a quiet, well-lit space. Consider what is in the background, and how the natural lighting will affect how clearly your care provider can see you throughout the appointment.

If you are ruminating on things ahead of your appointment, try writing down what you'd like to talk about with your counsellor so that you remember them, but also so you don't spend the time leading up to your appointment worrying.

Remember that therapy is a journey, it might take a number of appointments to work through the concerns you want to talk about. Sometimes your counsellor might provide you with homework or exercises to do outside of your appointments. Your commitment to the journey is important to an effective result.
